1. Product Snapshot

  • Chemical Name: β-Myrcene (7-Methyl-3-methylene-1,6-octadiene)

  • CAS Number: 123-35-3

  • Source: Produced via thermal pyrolysis of β-Pinene (Derived from Gum Turpentine).

  • Appearance: Clear, colorless to slightly yellow liquid.

  • Odor: Pleasant, sweet, balsamic, and slightly peppery/spicy odor.

  • Grade: Technical Grade / Synthesis Grade (Content ≥ 80% / ≥ 85%).

  • Main Application: The primary raw material for synthesizing Citral, Geraniol, Menthol, and Linalool.

2. Technical Specifications (Typical Data Sheet)

👨‍🔬 Chemist’s Technical Note on Stability:

Myrcene is highly reactive and prone to polymerization if exposed to heat or air.

We add TBC (tert-Butylcatechol) as a polymerization inhibitor immediately after distillation. Our “Instance Data” shows a low Peroxide Value (4.5 mmol/kg), proving that our nitrogen-sealed packaging effectively prevents oxidation during storage, ensuring you receive highly active material.

3. Core Applications & Industry Value

A. Synthesis of Aroma Chemicals (Key Feedstock)

Myrcene is the most critical intermediate in the terpene value chain.

  • Citral Production: It is the starting material for the industrial synthesis of Citral, which is further processed into Vitamins A and E.

  • Fragrance Alcohols: Used to produce Geraniol, Nerol, and Linalool via hydrochlorination or hydration processes.

  • Yield Efficiency: Our controlled impurity profile (low polymers) ensures higher conversion rates in downstream chemical reactions.

B. Fragrance & Flavor Formulation

  • Odor Profile: Offers a valuable “peppery” and “balsamic” note.

  • Application: Widely used in colognes, soaps, and detergents to provide a lifting, citrus-herbal nuance. It acts as a bridge between citrus top notes and woody base notes.

C. Functional Polymers

  • Used as a comonomer in the production of terpene resins and certain elastomers to modify adhesive properties (tackifying).

4. Handling & Storage (Critical)

Due to the conjugated double bond structure, Myrcene requires careful handling.

  • Storage Temperature: MUST be stored in a cool place (Recommended < 25°C).

  • Packaging:

    • Galvanized Iron Drums: 145kg / 150kg Net Weight.

    • ISO Tank: Bulk delivery for large-scale synthesis plants.

  • Shelf Life: 6 months (due to reactivity). We recommend “First-In, First-Out” inventory management.

  • Safety: Flammable liquid. Store away from sparks and open flames.

5. Quality Assurance

  • Freshness Guarantee: We schedule production based on orders to minimize inventory time, ensuring the Myrcene doesn’t sit in the warehouse degrading.

  • Traceability: Full documentation from the pine tree tapping to the final pyrolysis.
